Cyberhawk Celebrates International Women's Day

08 Mar 2021

One of the many things that make Cyberhawk truly special is our first-class team. Today is International Women's Day and we're celebrating the hard work, dedication and gold-standard from the inspirational women we work with. Since this time last year, the team has grown from 5 women to 13 internationally. Let’s get to know some of the brilliant team we’re celebrating today.

Natalia Anderson - Finance Business Partner

I am the finance business partner at Cyberhawk. I have a degree in accounting and finance from the University of Edinburgh and am a qualified chartered accountant. When I'm not helping to balance the books here at Cyberhawk, you can usually find me balancing on my hands! I have a background in gymnastics, having been involved with the sport since I was 18 months old and am still involved today as a Trustee of a local gymnastics charity. If I'm not in the gym, you'll find me out walking my dog, Odin, or planning my wedding for later this year.

Cathy Emmerich Legrand - Planning Manager (Geoviz)

44 years old (soon), I started my career as an H&S coordinator in an automotive plant in France. When I was 33 years old, I decided to go back to school for 2 years to finish my engineering degree.

The first time I wanted to become an engineer was when I was 11 years old after I gave up the pilot dream (haha, yes me too). From a young age, some very comprehensive teachers showed me that it made no difference whether you are male and female in Science. I had the chance to meet a good mentor who gave me the courage to go back to school after 11 years of working in the same position.

Since then, I've been working with drones on various projects, from traffic monitoring in Iceland to powerline inspections in Belgium, up to gas sensing in Kazakhstan with Cyberhawk (picture enclosed!).

The most remarkable project was the Kazakhstan one so far, where I met lovely people from all cultures and drunk camel milk for the first time in my life; we really showed up and had fun!

My actual role is Planning Manager in Geoviz Department, and I am always learning from my team.

Cath Alldred - Operations Lead

Hi, I’m Cath, a lover of all things outdoors and like most pilots at Cyberhawk, I like to do a bit of crazy stuff outside of work. I started life at Cyberhawk as a Trainee Pilot and recently relocated to the USA taking on the role of Operations Lead based in Denver.

Back in 2014, I led a climbing expedition to a remote part of East Greenland, establishing four new, never-before-explored routes with a team of four other guys. I passionately believe that these kinds of life-changing experiences don’t just fall into your lap - you have to work hard for them but make sure you have a lot of fun doing them. Expeditions are born from a book full of notes and ideas, endless nights of planning, and more spreadsheets than any outdoor-lover cares to imagine.

Australian-born and adopted-Scot, I currently split my time between Denver and California, where I’m learning to both snowboard and surf, while spending time with friends and family when I can. It’s safe to say that I do my best to take advantage of every opportunity life throws my way.

Alanna Innes- iHawk Product Owner

Alanna has ten years of experience supporting and working alongside development teams. With her passion for problem-solving and knack for getting to the heart of a matter, she keeps the software team focused on developing valuable solutions for our customers. In her spare time, Alanna likes to switch-off by playing board games or getting lost in a good book.

Kimberley Lamb - UAV Pilot (Level 2)

I'm Kimberley, and I am a qualified UAV pilot here at Cyberhawk. I joined in November 2020 and recently completed my training. I am part of the team within the Utilities and Renewables department and my day to day job involves working outside in varying levels of terrain. On my weekends, you will usually catch me climbing a Munro or camping somewhere in the wilderness.

Anna Dille - UAV Pilot (Level 2)

My names Anna and I'm a UAV pilot at Cyberhawk. My background is in design and geospatial, and I have successfully performed hundreds of transmission inspection flights to execute as a UAV Pilot II. My prior experience founding and managing a drone and virtual reality department within a design firm enables me to provide inventive solutions for client needs and quality data capture. Being a self-proclaimed globe trotter and having been brought up in the mountains of Colorado, I am excited for the adventures to be had as part of the Cyberhawk team!

Ellie Borthwick Anderson - Office Ambassador & HR Assistant

My name is Ellie & I have the most amazing job at Cyberhawk – I am the Office Ambassador! I love working with all the staff and making Cyberhawk the most awesome place to work. My favourite part is creating all the fun events for everyone to keep the "show up & have fun" value alive! I also support two other amazing Cyberhawk women in the HR dept (only all-female team in the company!), doing a lot of the behind the scenes work supporting them.

I started my Cyberhawk journey as part of the temporary staff team working on the NIE project, inspecting the assets' bar-by-bar. From day one, I loved Cyberhawk and what they stood for. This is a very exciting time to be part of the Cyberhawk team!

When I am not at work, I absolutely love to be out in nature, walking/hiking & camping. I have recently got into astronomy as my fiancé (Jonny) bought me a telescope for my birthday (any tips welcomed!), I have always been a bit of a space geek!

My fiancé and I live in West Lothian with our 2 cats, and we are planning our wedding this year in October!

Beata McPhail - Engineering Assistant

My name's Beata, and I'm an Engineering Assistant at Cyberhawk. Outside of work, I love being out in nature, doing yoga or playing tennis (badly:)

Rachel McCormack - Junior Software Developer

I'm Rachel, I'm 25, and I'm a junior software developer working on iHawk. I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MSci in computing science in 2018. Due to the pandemic, I have found myself joining the team rather unexpectedly. This is my third developer job since graduating, and I'm excited to get stuck in and meet the wider-team.

I am the only female developer on my team, which has not been unusual for me. My gender has been an immutable, unavoidable difference in every development job I have worked – and I am hopeful that this will be less of an oddity in the future. Fortunately, the Cyberhawk team has made me feel welcome and comfortable from the day I joined.

"Women have been taught that, for us, the earth is flat, and that if we venture out, we will fall off the edge. Some of us have ventured out nevertheless, and so far we have not fallen off."

 ― Andrea Dworkin

In my spare time, I teach high school kids to code in Python, I look after a menagerie of rodents (with my friendly little mice making appearances in team chats from time to time), play terrible video games, spoil Star Wars for entire mailing lists, and paint.
